George M. Villagrana Orosi High wide receiver Bryan Chavez hauled in a touchdown catch during the Cardinals’ 47-28 victory over Orange Cove.

Riding a four-game win streak into their playoff opener, Orosi High football coach remained a little cautious as the Cardinals face Granite Hills on Friday night.
“I don’t really like playing the same team twice in the same year,” White said. “But that’s what we have in the playoffs.”
Orosi (8-3) defeated Granite Hills (3-7) back in September, 48-21.
“We have a great challenge ahead of us to stay focused and not get over confident,” White said. “I’m sure Granite Hills will come out firing on all cylinders against us.”
Orosi was definitley firing on all cylinders in their rivalry game against Orange Cove in the annual Battle of the “O” game. The Cardinals behind a vaunted rushing attack led by Dominic Martinez and a defense spearheaded by Freddi Arciga rolled to a win over the Titans in front of the home crowd.
“The defensive line was getting penetration and we held their number one running back to 32 yards,” White said.
Martinez had 25 carries for 195 yards and four touchdowns as Orosi outgained Orange Cove, 406-215.
Arciga also added 65 yards and a TD.
Quarterback Evan Lara was 8 of 11 for 145 yards and two touchdowns. He had 42-yard scoring strike to Aidan Rodriguez in the 2nd quarter and later connected on a 32-yard pass play to Bryan Chavez.
Down 33-0 in the third quarter, the Titans found the endzone on a short run by junior quarterback Zach Ramirez.
Martinez would add his last TD of the game on a 20-yard run in the 4th quarter. Orange Cove added a TD on a 10-yard pass play from Ramirez to Mario Reynosa. The Titans would score two more times behind Antonio Guerrero and Ivan Zavala. Orange Cove ends the season with a 3-7 record.
